Roles and responsibilities of a software tester


The natural instinct of Software Developer is to demonstrate that their application works well. A testers focus is different. It is to demonstrate the application’s weakness or to show software breaking. The Roles and responsibilities of a Software Tester would vary based on the organization they work and the kind of Application that is under test. In general the important Roles and Responsibilities of a Software Tester are

Planning Phase

  • Analyzing the Software Requirements

Design Phase

  • Participating in preparing Test Plans
  • Preparing, Analyzing and Reviewing Test Scenarios

Development Phase

  • Preparing, Analyzing and Reviewing Test Cases
  • Preparing Test Data’s for the test cases
  • Preparing Test Environment to execute the test cases

Testing Phase

  • Executing the Test Cases
  • Defect Tracking
  • Coordinating with the Development Team to fix the defects
  • Preparing Bug Reports.

Release Phase

  • Preparing Summary Reports
  • Preparing Lesson Learnt documents from the previous project testing experience
